An agreement with MediQuick will offer health care to small businesses without insurance.
Small businesses in Flagler County that don’t provide health insurance have a new option for offering medical services to employees and families, thanks to a partnership with the Palm Coast Business Assistance Center and MediQuick Walk-In Urgent Care.
The partnership will allow employees and family members of small businesses to get medical services at a discounted price. Services include simple visits for the flu, colds, rashes and sore throats, or even extensive X-rays and lab tests.
Business owners can purchase coupons for time slots. Five slots cost $300, or $60 for a visit; 10 slots cost $550, or $55 per visit; and 15 slots cost $750, or $50 per visit.
Joe Roy, area manager for the Business Assistance Center, said MediQuick would be responsible for all the logging and documentation of visits.
“This is a reflection of our partnership with MediQuick,” City Manager Jim Landon said. “We are able to use our purchasing power to let the small businesses benefit.”
Landon said the City Council came up with the concept.
In November 2010, the City Council entered a three-year agreement with MediQuick to provide medical services to city employees. The city pays a $92,400 annual fee to MediQuick, giving city employees free primary care during two four-hour blocks per week.
The new BAC program for small businesses is a similar system.
Roy said a majority of the businesses that come through the Business Assistance Center don’t have health insurance. Helping Flagler’s small businesses with more than just one-on-one consulting is part of the goal, Roy said.
Roy said the plan should take some of the burden off the emergency room at Florida Hospital Flagler and other hospitals, too.
The program was announced last week, and Roy said he has received feedback from businesses, thanking him.
“We’re looking to see as many different areas as we can to help, and I think you’ll see more support programs coming out, as well,” Roy said.
