+ Student brings tequila-soaked gummies to class
A deputy with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was notified Thursday, Feb. 9, that an Indian Trails Middle School student was in possession of an alcoholic substance on campus grounds. On further investigation, it was discovered that the student had been handing out tequila-soaked gummy bears to classmates.
According to the report, a deputy and Indian Trails Assistant Principal Kim Gridley went to the classroom after being informed of the substance. A Tupperware bowl was found in the student’s backpack. The bowl contained liquid that “had a distinct smell of an alcoholic beverage.”
The student told Gridley that he had found the bowl near his bus stop and that it contained gummy bears, “but they were all sticky.”
During lunch, the report states, a girl student smelled the inside of the container and asked what was inside. The student replied, “It’s tequila.”
The student’s parents were called, and the student was suspended for 10 days. All gummy bears had been discarded or eaten by the time of the investigation. Breath analyzer tests were administered to two students, both of whom had a blood alcohol content of .000%. No charges were filed.
