Former city employee Terry Geigert, who filed a complaint against her former boss in August alleging she was demoted and sexually harassed on the job, has dropped an appeal with the state, city officials confirmed Friday.
In the complaint with the Florida Commission on Human Relations, Geigert — who was discharged in March 2011 — said she was terminated because of her sex and in retaliation for her complaints of discrimination in regard to her direct supervisor, Tony Capela, streets superintendent for the city.
However, after investigating the complaint, the state eventually ruled against Geigert, stating: “There is no reasonable cause to believe that an unlawful employment practice occurred.”
The claim was dismissed by the agency, the report states.
Despite the ruling against her, Geigert filed an appeal within the allotted timeframe based on the results from the Florida Commission on Human Relations report.
The court hearing for the appeal was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7; however, city officials were notified earlier this week that the appeal has been dropped.
According to the Notice of Withdrawal document filed Feb. 5, with the Florida Commission on Human Relations: “The undersigned, James L. Manfre, hereby gives his notice of withdrawal of complain and appeal of the determination of no cause in this matter on behalf of petitioner, Terry Geigert,” the document states.
“We are very pleased with the outcome, and hopefully this puts the whole situation behind us,” City Manager Jim Landon said Friday.
