Kiwanis Foundation awards startup grants

The Flagler/Palm Coast Kiwanis Club Foundation recently awarded $12,000 in three Kiwanis Startup Grants to Flagler County nonprofit organizations.

The Flagler Playhouse received a $5,000 grant to help start the Summer Theater Camp for Flagler County youth.

The playhouse plans to hold two three-week camps, with 30 students in each camp, during the summer. Three instructors will be employed. Contact Patricia Love, at 586-0773.

Focus on Flagler received a $2,000 grant to help start a Healthy Choices, Healthy Kids project to facilitate three-week culinary camps to increase youth knowledge of nutrition, food safety and local production of food. The camps will be for at-risk youth, 9 to 13, and will be provided at the Versie Lee Mitchell and Espanola Community Centers.

The Kids-a-Cookin’ curriculum developed by the Kansas State Family Nutrition Program will be used, and locally produced foods will be highlighted in the program. Contact Debra Neuman, at 904-752-0963.

A $5,000 grant was also awarded to Family Promise of Flagler County Inc. The primary object of the group is to provide temporary shelter to homeless families by allowing them to stay overnight in local churches until they can get re-established.
