A crash at mile marker 287 northbound on Interstate 95 in Flagler County resulted in lane closures for two hours. No one was seriously injured.
According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Clement Demesmin, 48, of Palm Coast, was driving a 1992 Honda Accord northbound on I-95 in the outside lane. Pedro Baguet Mejias, 52, of Hialeah, was driving a semi-tractor towing another semi-tractor, in the outside lane.
Demesmin failed to slow and struck the rear of the the trailer. Due to the damage, Demesmin's Accord became disabled in the roadway.
Meanwhile, Brian Ruiz, 31, of Palm Coast, was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla northbound and failed to see Demesmin disabled in the road, resulting in the Corolla striking Demesmin's Accord. Ruiz and his passenger, 23-year-old Eva Zomar, of DeLand, sustained minor injuries, as did Mejias and his passenger, 54-year-old Raul Bravo, of Miami.
Following that crash, Lisa Thomas, 46, of Jacksonville, was driving a 2012 Mazda 2 northbound in the outside lane, while Elias Boudebes, 46, of Palm Coast, was driving a 1999 Mazda 626 in the center lane next to Thomas' car.
As Thomas approached Demesmin's Accord (still disabled in the roadway), Thomas steered to the left to avoid striking the Accord. That caused Thomas to strike Boudebes' Mazda and sent Thomas in a spin into the guardrail before coming to a stop in the left lane of I-95.
As a result, Demesmin's Accord, Mejias' trailor, Thomas' Mazda and Boudebes' Mazda all were disabled in the roadway. I-95 was completely closed in the northbound direction until Fire Rescue could treat the injured parties. One lane was reopened at 12:26 a.m., alleviating the traffic congestion. One lane was utilized until 1:21 a.m., when all three lanes were safely reopened.
All injured parties were treated and released from the hospitals within hours of the crash.
