+ West Flagler crash leaves woman in serious condition
Michele Brown, 24, drove in front of Joy Allen, 47, on April 25, causing a crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report states that Brown, in a 2004 Ford F150, was traveling westbound on State Road 100. Allen, in a 2007 GMC Acadia, was traveling eastbound on the same road. Brown entered the left turn lane at the intersection of County Road 302 and did not see Allen.
When Brown attempted a left turn, violating Allen’s right of way, the vehicles collided, causing $17,500 of damage to Allen’s Acadia and $7,500 of damage to Brown’s F150, which overturned in an embankment.
Brown was airlifted to Halifax Trauma Unit. Her 12-year-old passenger, K.K. Black, was released from Florida Hospital Flagler April 25. Allen had minor abrasions.
+ Toddler locked in porch; woman jailed for drugs, neglect
After neighbors heard a child crying in a locked porch for two hours April 21, on South Daytona Avenue, they called the Flagler Beach Police Department, leading to an arrest on charges of neglect and drug possession.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office removed the child from the porch. The mother, Alicia Rutherford, opened the door, appearing to have just woken up.
The officer then noticed a green leaf-like substance on a bookshelf in the mobile home, and Rutherford was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, in addition to child neglect.
Rutherford’s mother, Suzy Rutherford, accepted temporary custody of the child, but she said Alicia Rutherford passed a drug test the next day after being bailed out of jail. Suzy Rutherford added that the Department of Children and Families interviewed Alicia and determined that there was no problem with her maintaining custody.
