Don and Alyce Allard, of Bird Land Place, have been recognized as the April Selection of the Month by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.

They moved to Palm Coast in 1996 from the Springfield, Mass. The couple does all of the landscaping themselves, from cutting and fertilizing the lawn to trimming trees and maintaining all the plantings. They have a double lot on a freshwater canal that flows into Bird of Paradise Lake.

The front yard has many palms, including needle, Chinese fan and windmill. Along the front sidewalk are manicured Shilling hollies.

Red and white comprise Alyce’s present color scheme. The numerous azalea bushes have finished blooming, but beautiful red amaryllis are abundant now, with an unusual double-flowered one. Red geraniums and white wax begonias brighten the beds, and a large clump of Easter lilies are about to flower.

Other trees in the yard include East Palatka holly, weeping bottle bush, sabal palm, and two large red maples along the bank of the canal.
