The following is adapted from press releases issued by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol:

UPDATED 4:15 p.m.
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a vehicle crashing into an occupied home shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, on Cochise Court, in Palm Coast.

Deputies said when they arrived, they found a car inside the bedroom of the home at 15 Cochise Court, where resident Nancy Deane was sleeping. Debris from the impact of the crash was sent approximately 25 feet further into the house.

The driver, 17-year-old Maria Barletta, of the F-section, was not injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Deane sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Barletta failed to negotiate a curve due to a deer sighting on Cochise Court, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway, strike the residence and crash through the bedroom wall.

A Palm Coast building official responded to the scene and determined the bedroom was unsafe.

The electrical circuit breaker to the room was shut off due to exposed wires.
