A 52-year-old Brandon woman was accidentally shot in the legs by her boyfriend Saturday night as the two were hog hunting at the Cowart Hunt Camp on County Road 305 in West Flagler County.

Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies said shortly before 7:30 p.m. Steven Egan, 52, and his girlfriend, Lisa Simmons, were inside a hunting tent when Egan observed a hog. He took aim and shot. He thought he had hit the animal, but was unable to locate it when he left the tent.

Egan told deputies that he heard a noise in the woods and, thinking that was the hog, he shot at it. Instead, Simmons was struck with the .30-caliber rifle bullet which traveled through both of her upper legs. Egans said he was unaware that Simmons had left the tent and was in the woods.

Simmons was fireflighted to Halifax Medical Center where she underwent surgery Saturday evening.
