United Way announces volunteer of the year nominees

The United Way Volunteer Center and Bright House Networks will present the 25th-annual Outstanding Volunteers of the Year Awards luncheon April 19, celebrating National Volunteer Week, at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.

The event will honor the people who in 2011 dedicated themselves, their time and their talents to the community. By taking action, creating change and solving problems they, have helped to change lives in Volusia and Flagler counties. Tickets must be purchased by April 13.

Nominees from Flagler County include Flagler County Free Dental Clinic dental assistants; Flagler County Youth Center’s Student Advisory Council; Jerry Frierson, of the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA; Karen Jean Teehan, of Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler; Linda DeSola, of Easter Seals of Volusia and Flagler Counties; Lt. Gerald Ditolla, of Special Olympics Florida Flagler County; Marsha Zeller, of Flagler County Youth Center, Department of Juvenile Justice, and Community Garden chairwoman; Noble Livingston, of Halifax Health-Hospice of Volusia-Flagler; the Rev. Charles Silano, of Flagler County Department of Social Services; and Sophie Walker, of Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia.
