Flagler County Fire Rescue recently landed a $485,000 Federal Firefighters Assistance Grant for 15 new heart monitors/defibrillators to be placed in county ambulances.

The department was notified by U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s office that the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security approved a grant application by Flagler County Fire Rescue for the equipment.

“The new heart monitors will have the latest technology and more advanced options to assist with treatment in the field,” Flagler County Fire/Rescue Chief Don Petito said. “The units will interface with Florida Hospital Flagler and transmit ECG information via Bluetooth technology. The new heart monitors will out-perform the existing monitors with many more capabilities.”

The total cost of the equipment is $607,860 with the grant paying for 80% of the cost. The monitors will provide the countywide ambulance fleet with state-of-the-art equipment.

“We really appreciate Senator Nelson’s and Representative John Mica’s efforts on our behalf,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said.
