The multiuse path will eventually lead to a full circuit spanning the northwestern portion of Palm Coast. The trails will be paid for completely by the developer.
As Palm Coast City Manager Jim Landon puts it, little projects can go a long way.
“We continue to work on the trail master plan we adopted a few years ago,” Landon said Sept. 27. “And one of the goals is to tie the dead ends together.”
The extension will span 1.1 miles, linking the path along Highway U.S. 1, south toward the existing path along Palm Coast Parkway. The goal of the extension is to create a circuit through the existing Palm Coast Park Development of Regional Impact. The agreement for the path along U.S. 1 is between the city and the Florida Department of Transportation.
The cost of the project is approximately $300,000. Funding comes from the DRI.
Landon also clarified Tuesday that taxpayers didn’t pay for the path along U.S. 1.
“The city and taxpayers did not put any money into (this path),” Landon said. “That’s something the developer put in. It looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere, but that’s just a sign of the times.”
Landon said future plans also include connecting a multiuse path from the northernmost part Bird of Paradise Drive, west along Matanzas Woods Parkway, to U.S. 1.
