The County Commission approved a position for Enterprise Flagler Executive Director Greg Rawls, a flat elections budget, a new roof at Princess Place and a narcotics grant.
After structuring an economic development arm to replace Enterprise Flagler — which will close operations Sept. 30 — and agreeing on a job description for a new economic development director, the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners made official a position for former Enterprise Flagler Executive Director Greg Rawls.
The economic development manager position, approved unanimously Sept. 19, is meant to ease the transition between Enterprise Flagler and the new organization. It will pay in a salary range of $64,496 to $97,582 per year, which County Administrator Craig Coffey noted was “significantly less” than Rawls is currently earning.
Coffey also explained that Enterprise Flagler has agreed to turn Rawls’ three-month severance package over to the county, along with all of its physical and intellectual property.
The rest of its assets will be split between the county and the Palm Coast Business Assistance Center.
“Rawls is not the new economic development director,” Coffey said. But his county contract will be good for up to a year, at which time the new CEO can opt to extend his tenure within the organization.
Board levels elections budget
Tensions ran high again Sept. 19, when the board made its final decision to reject any proposed increases and keep the budget for supervisor of elections’ upcoming fiscal year flat.
Denying Supervisor Kim Weeks’ previously proposed funding jumps, the board unanimously approved a level budget, minus grant funds from the Help America Vote Act of 2002 and matching county funds.
Last time she came before the board, Weeks was asked to provide documentation regarding raises to staff. She didn’t.
“It puts your budget to be suspect,” Chairman Alan Peterson said. “That’s what we struggle with.”
Princess Place house to be re-roofed
R&R Industries of Holly Hill won the bid to replace the roof at the Princess Place Island House for $49,513 contract. Construction should be completed by Oct. 1.
Sheriff’s receives grant for narcotics unit
Sheriff Don Fleming was awarded a $67,445 grant from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to fund the Flagler County Street Level Narcotics Unit.
The county commission approved the grant at the Sept. 19 meeting.
