The Palm Coast Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8696 and its Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold the National Annual Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest for grades six, seven and eight; and the Voice of Democracy Patriotic Scholarship Competition for high-school students.
Both youth competitions also are open to students who are home-schooled. The Voice of Democracy Program has been the VFW’s premier scholarship program since 1947.
This year’s theme for the Patriot’s Pen essay is “Are You Proud Of Your Country?” The Voice of Democracy Competition theme is “Is There Pride In Serving In Our Military?”
Cash prizes are awarded at local, district, state and national levels. The top national prize for the Patriot’s Pen is a $10,000 savings bond. The top national award for the Voice of Democracy is a $30,000 scholarship.
All entries must be submitted by Nov. 1.
