First-grade students at Old Kings Elementary School recently finished reading the book, “Big Rig,” a story of a little girl whose father drives a semi-trailer.

To help the children understand the size of the truck, Dave Nelson and Bob DeJoy, truck-driving instructors at Flagler Technical Institute Adult and Community Education, brought a truck to show the students.

The first-graders climbed into the cab for a first-hand experience. Fortunately, they couldn’t reach the pedals.
