The following is adapted from a county release:

A public rededication of the George Washington Carver Center is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 201 Drain St., Bunnell.

Recently refurbished, the center will now be under the direction of a Carver Governance Board, following an agreement between the county, the School Board and the city of Bunnell.

Flagler County will continue to own and maintain the building, providing $50,000 in operation costs, while the School Board will provide personnel to run the center. The Carver Center Governance Board will work with the School Board and county to develop program activities.

Bunnell and the School Board will also contribute $10,000 each to the center’s budget. A foundation was also formed for future funding.

The 12,880-square-foot center was remodeled by the county, with new air conditioning units and classrooms, as well as other renovations/additions. The locker rooms and showers were remodeled to create four recreational rooms, totaling 1,520 square feet, as well.

Grants from Bank of America and the Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis Club will be recognized at the event. Businesses and community members have donated equipment and furnishings that are being used at the Center and donations are appreciated. Donors can contact Flagler County at 313-4001.

The public is invited to tour the new facility.
