+ GSB security guard wins Chairman’s Award
Created last year by County Commissioner George Hanns, Flagler’s Chairman’s Award has no schedule for recognizing its recipients. It’s an honor given to any resident, staff member or organization exclusively at the Flagler County Board of County Commission chairman’s discretion for, as Alan Peterson put it, going “clearly above and beyond what is reasonably expected.”

Peterson called Government Services Building lobby guard Larry Belfort to accept the award. “For outstanding customer service, and always being helpful, cheerful and friendly to the residents of Flagler County,” Peterson said.

Belfort was given a standing ovation from all in board chambers.

When asked to speak, Belfort smiled. “I talk enough during the day, so that’s all right. I’ll be quiet now,” he said.

Belfort has worked in the GSB since August 2010, and is a U.S. Air Force veteran.

+ Space at Flagler airport subleased to Enterprise
The County Commission approved a sublease agreement between the county, Enterprise Leasing Company of Florida LLC and the law firm of Chanfrau & Chanfrau, for office space the Flagler County Airport.

Enterprise currently holds a five-year lease on the space, and will now sublease a portion of it to Chanfrau & Chanfrau, which has been operating in Volusia County for the past 35 years.

The one-year lease includes automatic yearly renewals, not to extend beyond November 2015.

+ Daytona-based firm wins Flagler tourism study contract
The County Commission approved a contract with Mid-Florida Marketing & Research Inc., of Daytona Beach, to provide the Tourist Development Council a 12-month tourism market research study, in the amount of $27,600.

+ School Board maintains chairs, meeting schedule
The Flagler County School Board held a state-mandated reorganization meeting Tuesday morning, Nov. 22. But they didn’t do a whole lot of reorganizing.

Current Chairwoman Sue Dickinson will remain in her position. Current Vice-Chairman Andy Dance will remain in his. All liaison seats will also remain the same, and all regular meetings will still be held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month — although both of those items will have to be officially voted in at the Dec. 6 meeting.

One addition is that a legislative update item will be included on the agenda each week, giving board members a chance to let their colleagues know what’s happening on their committees and elsewhere.
