Economic Opportunity Advisory Council met for the first time Nov. 22.
Members of Flagler County’s Economic Opportunity Advisory Council will have a full plate of more than just turkey and mashed potatoes over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The EOAC held its first meeting Tuesday, Nov. 22, which was mostly dedicated to housekeeping items — particularly a briefing on the Sunshine Law from Flagler County Attorney Al Hadeed.
Joe Mayer, the county’s human resources director, also briefed the committee on the latest news in the search for hiring an executive director.
According to Mayer, the search was nationwide, and the county received 63 applications. County staff has shortened the list to about 20 candidates.
The goal is for the committee to agree on 10 to 12 potential hires at next week’s meeting. Phone interviews with those 12 would be conducted Dec. 14. Then the pool will be minimized to six candidates, who would come to town for in-person interviews.
The top three would be presented to the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, which will also be given the EOAC’s recommendation. The County Commission will make the final decision.
Mayer said the salary range that was solicted was between $73,000 and $110,000.
Each member was given a disc that has all 63 applications. They were asked to review the county staff’s recommended short list.
County Administrator Craig Coffey said all EOAC members could review all 63 applications, or simply review the county’s short list when trying to dwindle the list down to 12.
The Economic Opportunity Advisory Committee meets again 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center.
Vice Chair Federline
Greg Federline, who was the only person to volunteer for the vice chair position, was unanimously appointed. The primary responsibility of the vice chair — aside from adjourning meetings — is to run meetings should Chairwoman Barbara Revels be absent.
