Do you support a district wide K-12 school uniform policy that requires a specific color and style of clothing for students? Yes or No.

That was the question posed in a survey conducted among those attending the Nov. 15 town hall meeting about school uniforms in Flagler County Public Schools.

The results were as follows:
50 parents, or 55%, were for uniforms
40 parents, or 45%, were against

23 students, or 26%, were for uniforms
66 students, or 74%, were against

The numbers are similar to previous polls, which were reviewed at the Nov. 15 meeting by Superintendent Janet Valentine. Of about 1,600 responses from parents in a previous poll, 64% are for uniforms; 36% were against them. Among students, 77% were against. Of the 499 responses from faculty, teachers, administrators, and support staff, 71% support uniforms.

The next opportunity to provide input to the School Board will be during a uniform forum scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 7, at the Matanzas High School Pirate Theatre.

The final vote is anticipated to occur at the first School Board meeting in January. This date will be determined at the Nov. 22 reorganization meeting, which must take place on the third Tuesday after the first Monday of the month of November, as required by state statute.
