Flagler unemployment drops from 14.7 to 14.0%

The October 2011 unemployment rate in Flagler County was 14.0% according to a release from the Center for Business Excellence. The rate in September was 14.7%.

In the same period, the unemployment rate fell from 10.8% to 10.3% in Volusia County, from 10.6% to 10.1% in Florida, and from 8.8% to 8.5% in the United States.

Nonagricultural employment in the Palm Coast metro area (Flagler County) was 18,000 in October 2011. Total nonagricultural employment decreased by 1.6% (-300 jobs) over the year. Statewide, employment increased by 1.3% over the same time period.

Government (+200 jobs) was the only major sector that gained jobs over the year. Manufacturing, trade, transportation, and utilities, financial activities, education and health services, and leisure and hospitality remained unchanged over the year.

Information (-200 jobs) lost the most jobs over the year, followed by mining, logging, and construction, professional and business services, and other services (-100 jobs each).
