Puqui Estremera’s baby was due Friday, March 25. Her midwife was scheduled to arrive at her house 6 p.m. Monday, March 21. But the baby did not plan on waiting that long.
Estremera, owner of the Montessori School of Palm Coast, woke up March 21 with cramping, but insisted the pains were not contractions.
The midwife decided to come early, just in case.
At 12:40 p.m., her husband, Albert, left for work and called a friend to come be with his wife. At 12:50 Albert received a phone call saying the baby was on its way.
The midwife had not arrived yet.
Albert was traveling home, when his wife called again. This time it went to his voicemail.
At 12:59, with her husband’s voicemail on speakerphone, and her midwife, who was lost, on another speakerphone, Puqui listened to instructions and delivered her baby girl all by herself.
When Albert arrived four minutes later, he was overjoyed to find his wife lying in bed, baby still attached.
Another four minutes later, the midwife arrived and the 8-pound, 7-ounce, 21.5 inch baby girl, Evelyn Estremera, was given to her parents.
No sweat.
