Kim Carney and Marshall Shupe comfortably win seats on Flagler Beach's City Commission. In Bunnell, Jenny Crain-Brady and John Rogers barely squeak by.

The Flagler Beach City Commission elections came to a close Tuesday night, March 8, with Marshall Shupe and Kim Carney each winning three-year seats on the commission.

According to the Flagler Supervisor of Elections, the unofficial results show 1,301 total votes cast. Carney won 536 votes; Shupe won 480; and Philip Busch won 285.

All of the Flagler Beach candidates were gathered outside City Hall after the polls closed at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, awaiting the election results with friends and family. Busch congratulated the winners and shook their hands.

“This is very exciting,” Commissioner-elect Kim Carney said. “I’m the female commish!” Carney and her campaign crew planned to celebrate at the Golden Lion Café, down the street from City Hall.

“(This campaign) is really an indication of how much work we have to do,” she said. “And we’ll get it done … I’ll work hard. I promise.”

Commissioner-elect Marshall Shupe kept it short and sweet.

“This city has kept the same small-town charm,” he said. “We’re going to work toward all the goals we talked to people about … We’re just going to try to be efficient and honest.”

Kim Carney and Marshall Shupe will be attending their first City Commission meeting as chairmen Tuesday, March 15.

Charter Amendments
Every Flagler Beach charter amendment was accepted in landslide fashion in Tuesday’s city elections. Below are the unnofficial results according to the Flagler Supervisor of Elections.
Amendment 1: YES (89.72%)
Amendment 2: YES (94.43%)
Amendment 3: YES (92.96%)
Amendment 4: YES (93.13%)
Amendment 5: YES (91.68%)
Amendment 6: YES (87.23%

Bunnell results
In Bunnell, two City Commissioners out of five candidates were elected. A total of 443 votes were cast.

The Flagler Supervisor of Elections unofficial results show Jenny Crain-Brady, 124 votes, and John Rogers, 108 votes, as the winners.

Bill Baxley came up three votes short with 105. Jimmy Flynt Sr. and Koreen Kowalsky-Colp both earned votes in the double digits.

Out of 5,129 Flagler County voters, 1,044 (20.35%) cards were cast.
