The following is adapted from a release from Flagler County:

Last month, firefighters from around the state came to Flagler County to assist in fighting wildfires. This month one of Flagler County’s own firefighters will be reporting to duty to a management team to fight a fire in Georgia.

Flagler County Fire Rescue Chief Don Petito said Capt. Jamey Burnsed has been called by the Florida Inter-Agency Incident Management Green Team to help manage the Honey Prairie Fire in Georgia.

“We are glad Flagler County can return the favor and send some of our highly qualified personnel to assist someone else on a fire,” County Administrator Craig Coffey said.

Burnsed is nationally qualified as a Type II safety officer and a resource unit leader. He reported to the Honey Prairie Fire in Fargo, Ga., this week to serve as safety officer for the Green Team. He will return to duty in Flagler County in two weeks.

This is not the first time Flagler has been asked to assist. During the Gulf Oil Spill, Flagler County Operations Chief Mike Bazanos responded with the state incident management team as operations section chief.
