At Flagler County's budget workshop July 11, county staff proposed $10,000 of capital project budget funds, plus labor hours, to construct an outdoor qualification range at the landfill on Old Kings Road, for various law enforcement weapons systems.

According to County Administrator Craig Coffey, the Sherriff’s Office currently must travel to an out-of-county private facility, where they only have intermittent target use and are charged fees.

He said that the saving’s the county would incur over time in gasoline, time and fees should “easily” cover the initial $10,000 investment.

The outdoor range would not affect those already inhabiting the space — the Radio Aero Modelers club.

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners supported the proposal. The decision will be officially voted on later this summer.
