The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners approved, at a June 20 meeting, the TDC’s recommendation to award $150,000 of capital improvement funds to the city of Palm Coast for upgrades to the Indian Trails Sports Complex, at Indian Trails Middle School. The improvements include grading, irrigation installation and sod laying, for major tournament use to promote Flagler County sports tourism industry.

Yesterday morning, July 6, an Interlocal agreement with the city was unanimously approved, obligating Palm Coast to repay the county’s grant should the fields, for any reason, not be used as planned.

The stipulation details that Palm Coast is obligated to hold at least two tournaments per year, including at least six out-of-county teams participating in each tournament.

According to County Administrator Craig Coffey, local hotels are already booked solid for this weekend’s upcoming 65-team lacrosse tournament at Wadsworth Park, with families starting to spill over into neighboring counties.

Managed and constructed by Palm Coast, the fields are planned to be play-ready by October.
