An attorney representing an Internet café asked Palm Coast City Council members to be “reasonable” in regulation of such establishments.
A six-month moratorium on Internet cafés was enacted by the Palm Coast City Council last month (read the story on the unanimous decision here), but they have still been a topic around the city.
An attorney representing Allied Veterans of the World, one of the larger such establishments in the city, spoke before the City Council at its July 5 regular meeting.
Adam Regar, representing Allied Veterans of the World, said the Internet café is involved in the community, and is in the town for the right reasons.
“I recognize there might be some organizations that to do not play by the rules or potentially create a bad image ... We are not one of those organizations,” Regar told the City Council.
No members of the City Council had a response, nor did City Manager Jim Landon.
Regar, however, reiterated the good that Allied Veterans of the World does in the city, but did say he supports reasonable regulation.
“They exist for veterans; they are veterans,” he added. “Their Internet center is one of several ways they raise funds to fulfill their charitable purpose.”
At the end, Mayor Jon Netts did say: “I think your keyword was reasonable.”
