Fifteen 2- to 8-year-olds toured the city’s Water Plant 3 last week, learning precisely where our drinking water comes from.
“We wanted the kids to understand where the water originates when they turn on a faucet,” Tara Rife said. “And we also talked about turning off the faucets to save water.”
Peter Roussell, utility chief operator at Water Plant 3, walked the families through the process of how the city captures and treats their drinking water. Moms were curious about such issues as future desalination, the absence of fluoride in the water and conservation tips.
Palm Coast’s Water Plant 3 opened in 2008. It softens raw water and delivers1.5 million gallons per day of high-quality drinking water from eight wells.
