Making Eagle Scout is an honor and achievement Boy Scouts have been striving for since 1911. The Eagle Scout rank is achieved by earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit through oath of service and leadership.

The title of Eagle Scout is held for life, thus the saying, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”
On Jan. 29, Christopher Van Buren reached the honor.

Van Buren is the 11th Eagle Scout from Palm Coast Elks Lodge 2709’s Boy Scout Troop 270. He was also awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

“This young man has a bright future ahead of him,” said Jeannie Fontana, lodge spokeswoman.
