Cheyenna Espinoza, a junior from Matanzas High School, has been named Sunshine State Scholar representing Flagler County.

The Sunshine State Scholars program originated in Florida in 1997 as a math and science competition. In 2010, the focus of the program was changed to target 11th-grade students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Now Espinoza, her parents and a teacher will travel to Orlando to discuss career and post secondary opportunities in Florida.
