The Palm Coast City Council unanimously approved to co-designate a road in honor of Flagler County Sheriff’s Sgt. Frank Celico, who died in September.

The City Council voted Tuesday to pass the resolution that adds Celico Way to Kings Way on the street sign. The eastern segment of the road will be Celico Way, and won’t impact the two businesses whose addresses are on Kings Way.

A couple of months ago, City Councilman Frank Meeker presented the council with a petition of more than 700 signatures supporting a name change of the road.

Patrick Delsordo is a longtime friend of Celico. He spoke at Tuesday’s meeting.

“I understand that some of you don’t understand the idea or the concept, or don’t like it because it opens up floodgates,” Delsordo said. “It does not.”

Delsordo has been a Palm Coast resident since 1982. He said adding two street names will just confuse drivers.

“Let’s give (drivers) one name,” Delsordo said. “Let’s make it Celico Way.”

Carlos Celico, the father of Frank Celico, said he appreciated all the support from the community.

“I’ll always be indebted forever, and I thank everybody,” Carlos Celico said.
