Gary Skelton, 67, of Bunnell, was killed by a car Dec. 11, as he stood on the side of the road on County Road 302.

The sequence of events began 6:41 p.m. Dec. 11, when Skelton's motorcycle was involved in a single vehicle traffic crash. After this crash, he was standing on County Road 302, possibly attempting to summon help from other traffic.

Wayne Davis, 67, also of Bunnell, was driving his Ford Explorer westbound on County Road 302 and failed to observe the pedestrian, according to the report from the Florida Higway Patrol.

At approximately 6:42 pm, the left front of the Explorer struck Skelton within the westbound lane of County Road 302. Due to the collision, he was thrown to the south shoulder and into a ditch. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene.

Neither Davis nor his passenger, Jeanette Davis, 62, were injured.

The fatality is the first in December in Flagler County. There were seven fatalities in November.
