Rotary Club of Flagler County recently hosted a Trades of Hope event at Hilton Garden Inn.

Trades of Hope is a home-party business that creates a market for handcrafts, such as scarves, jewelry, baskets, wall hangings and purses, through fair-trade organizations.

The women who create Trades of Hope products are women who are being rescued from the sex trade, sweatshops, slums and extreme poverty.

“Not only did we have fun socializing, relaxing and enjoying each other, but because we purchased beautiful items from women around the world, we supported them, help them, and are keeping them from returning to a life that seemed to have little hope,” said Janice Nickol, Rotary member who organized the event.

With proceeds made from the party, Trades of Hope partnered with Lifecoast Church and sent a team of 20 to Haiti to help people create sustainable businesses there so that parents can keep their children.
