Palm Coast City Council member Mary DiStefano took a few minutes at the council’s Aug. 16 regular meeting to put in her two cents on economic development.
“Since January, there’s been a great deal of discussion on Enterprise Flagler and economic development,” DiStefano said Tuesday morning.
DiStefano, who has been one of the more vocal council members in regard to cutting Enterprise Flagler’s funding, conceded that she doesn’t have the answers. But whatever plan is decided on, it needs to be “very, very clear,” DiStefano said.
One thing is clear now: Enterprise Flagler will no longer have a role after its executive board of directors unanimously agreed Aug. 18 to begin the dissolution process. (Read the story here.)
“(The plan) should have goals and objectives,” DiStefano said, adding that there should be quarterly reports made available and the private sector should be involved.
The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners will meet Monday, Aug. 22, to discuss economic development and County Administrator Craig Coffey’s concept of an Economic Development Council, modeled after the Tourist Development Council.
“I’d just like to clarify that we desperately need jobs in this city and in this county,” DiStefano said. “However, if we’re going to do it, we have to do it right.”
