At the Flagler County School Board meeting, Tuesday night, Aug. 16, a bus route schedule for the 2011-2012 school year was approved, which included seven fewer routes than last year’s alignment.

Supervisor of Transportation Bruce Preece said that scheduling and reductions are ongoing process, and routes are subject to change.

“We’re fine-tuning the routes as best we can,” he said. “This is a more economical way to transport our students, without compromising safety.”

Currently scheduled, 89 bus routes will run next year, as opposed to 96 in the year prior. Two years ago, 100 routes were scheduled.

In a continuation of last year’s trend, more middle- and high-school routes will be combined, as well.
