At the Aug. 9 Palm Coast City Council workshop, council member Bill Lewis questioned the number of tractor-trailer trucks that park in the Walmart parking lot overnight and throughout weekends.
Lewis referenced the city’s effort in trying to lure people to move to Palm Coast — “Destination Palm Coast.”
“It seems another group has taken us seriously with Destination Palm Coast, and that’s the truckers,” Lewis said last week.
According to City Manager Jim Landon, the trucks are legally allowed to park in Walmart’s parking lot.
“I don’t think we want (Walmart) to be a truck stop,” Lewis said. “I think we need to look into how we can correct that situation.”
Landon agreed to see if the city’s Land Development Code prohibits trucks from parking overnight at various locations.
REGULAR MEETING AGENDA
This morning, the Palm Coast City Council will discuss the five-year extension with Waste Pro for residential trash and recycling pick up. If Waste Pro and city staff can hash out a deal, then the new contract will come back to the City Council for final approval.
Also at the meeting, City Council members will have the second reading of the rezoning of 85 acres, known as Seminole Pointe, as well as the annexation of Graham Swamp into the city and the deannexation of Nature Scapes.
The meeting will get under way 9 a.m. at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway N.E.
