After being deemed ineligible for a signage and historic greenhouse restoration grant, Friends of Washington Oaks Garden State Park was advised by the Division of Historical Resources that funds may be available in 2012 under another designation — the State of Florida Preserve America Preservation Training Initiative. Since state agencies cannot apply for state funds, though, County Administrator Craig Coffey told the Flagler County Board of County Commission at Aug. 1’s regular meeting, the county will do it for them.

“We’re simply a conduit for this particular item,” he said. No additional county funds will be required for the projects.

Flagler County, acting as grantee, will apply for and disburse funds to Friends of Washington Oaks, which will partner as the overseer of all administration and project work.

The application transfer will also make Flagler a Preserve America Community, a federal heritage/revitalization designation.

The motion passed unanimously.
