An amended lease for a bait, tackle and take-out barbecue shop at Bing’s landing was approved with amendments by the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, at a Aug. 1 meeting.

The amendments, offered by commissioner Barbara Revels, include ensuring that the county not be responsible for any business expenses excluding labor, deck/awning construction plans must be approved by the A1A Scenic Byways Program, restaurant parking must be designated, no trees will be cut down and the rent amount, currently set at $500 per month, will take on a 10% yearly compounded escalator.

“By year 10, rent will be almost at $1,200 a month,” commissioner Nate McLaughlin said.

Signage was also discussed, leaving the board in agreement to limit amount and monitor style.

Commissioner Milissa Holland supported the amendments, fearing that unchecked growth could negatively affect the park’s “historic element.”

“This is something that we treasure, and take very seriously” she said. “I don’t want to sell our hard work out just so this small business can make a profit … Once it’s gone it’s gone.”
