+ Attendance soars at Wings Over Flagler
According to the final ticket tally provided by sponsor Blue Sky Yakrobatics, approximately 7,000 people attended Flagler County’s Wings Over Flagler Fly-In event on March 26 and 27.
“We had more people attend the event on Saturday than attended the event both days last year,” said Roy Sieger, Flagler County Airport director.
Next year’s Wings Over Flagler will be dedicated to William E. “Wild Bill” Walker who was killed in a fatal crash during an aerobatics demonstration at this year’s event. Walker, 58, was from Cookeville, Tenn. His family plans to attend next year’s event in Flagler.
+ Burn ban continues; possible end in June
The Flagler County burn ban remains in effect. Forecasts from the Division of Forestry predict a weather pattern more conducive to regular afternoon thundershowers in June.
The emergency ban, which applies to all Flagler residents, outlaws outdoor open flames with the exception of contained barbecue grills. Penalties include a warning for the first offense and fines of up to $500 or 60 days in the County Jail for subsequent violations.
The law specifically bans fireworks including sparklers; open burning, use of open fire pits and containers; parking vehicles with catalytic converters in high grassy areas and throwing flammables from vehicles.
+ Flagler School District issues parent survey
In an effort to improve and support school plans and activities, the Flagler School District has organized a parent feedback survey.
A 33-question anonymous poll for any parents with children attending a local public school, questions are based on a scale from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree,” measuring qualities like parents’ confidence in their child’s education and students’ enjoyment of their school experience.
The survey can be taken online, at www.flaglerschools.com.
+ Two charged in CVS Pharmacy drug robbery
Flagler Beach Police have charged two Palm Coast men with the Thursday, April 21, robbery of a CVS Pharmacy on State Road 100, in Flagler Beach. Ten bottles of oxycodone were stolen.
Matthias Sieber, 26, of 125 Raintree Circle, and Joseph Milici, 32, of 45 Kanakakee Trail, were transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility.
+ Crash on Old Kings Road kills 33-year-old man
A Palm Coast resident was killed Friday morning after being run over by a car on Old Kings Road, according to state troopers.
Manual Estrada, 33, of Palm Coast, was lying within the roadway in the southbound travel lane of Old Kings Road, in front of Fairfield Inn and Suites, around 4 a.m. Friday, April, 22, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The Toyota Echo, driven by Jenneth Baker, 64, of Palm Coast, was traveling southbound on Old Kings Road approaching Estrada. The undercarriage of Baker’s car struck Estrada, the report states.
+ Man awakes to being cut with knife on I-95
Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies responded Thursday, April 21, to a scene on Interstate-95 near the Matanzas Parkway overpass, where road workers found a man who had been cut several times with a knife.
According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, the victim told deputies he was traveling with companions to Orlando. He said he was sleeping and awoke to being cut. His assailants then threw him out of the vehicle near the overpass, he told deputies.
The man was transported to Florida Hospital Flagler for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
+ Sheriff’s Office sponsors drug take-back program
Flagler County residents who have old and unused prescription medications lying around in the cabinets will have the opportunity to dispose of those medications during the Drug Take-Back event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in several locations.
Residents are being asked to bring prescription medications only. Vitamins and other over-the-counter drugs are not being accepted. The purpose of the program is to keep these prescription medications from re-entering the environment or being misused or abused.
The locations are Publix Supermarket, in Flagler Beach; the Government Services Building, in Bunnell; the Country Store, in Daytona North; and in Palm Coast, the Publix Supermarket in the Palm Harbor Shopping Center, and the Walmart parking lot.
