Step to USA is a 27-day program for students from Spain ages 14 to 17, and it’s looking for hosts.
Hosts do not need to have children of their own. Host families provide a bed, meals, limited transportation and a warm, supportive environment. Students all speak English and come with their own spending money and medical insurance. Students are expected to have chores and be treated as family members, not guests.
Students arrive July 1, in Orlando, and will be bused to the Northeast Florida area to meet their host families.
Step to USA is hoping to place students from the Jacksonville area to Daytona Beach. There will be a van service to help with transportation.
The return date is July 27. Students attend one all-day and one half-day field trip a week.
The group will be visiting local attractions, as well as Universal Studios, Sea World and Daytona Lagoon. Bus transportation is provided for these field trips, as well as airport transfers.
Interested host families can contact Community Coordinator Susan James at 904-806-1392 or stepto [email protected]. James has personally hosted 18 students during the past 15 years.
“Spanish students are very good role models for today’s teens,” James said. “They are responsible, gracious and thrilled for the opportunity to come to America to live in an American home. If you have room in your heart and your home, would you please consider opening your home to a young person from abroad?”
