A local pollen alert is in effect for Palm Coast, according to The Weather Channel. Pine pollen is rated as "very high" today. Oak and cedar are also in pollen season.

Pollen is most noticeable between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to a report from the University of Florida. The report also states: "Common symptoms of allergic reactions include watery eyes, itching, coughing, congestion, hives, runny nose, fatigue, asthma attacks and, in severe cases, death. Approximately $7 billion a year are spent on doctor visits and allergy medication, and allergies cause approximately 4 million missed work days."

Pine has been rated as "high" or "very high" every day since Jan. 16, according to The Weather Channel. The forecast is "very high" tomorrow and Wednesday, as well, with Thursday forecast to be "high." Peak season can extend until late February, and the pollen should essentially disappear by late April.

In mid-April, grass pollen begins to be noticeable. Early May is the peak season for grass pollen; it will be gone by late June.

Weed pollen's cycle begins in early May, peaks in mid-August and ends in mid October.

Mold spore activity is predicted to be low today.
