+ 81-year-old in BMW hits Harley, causing serious injuries
An 81-year-old Jacksonville man, Alex Meyer, turned into the driveway at 5224 N. State Road A1A March 17, in Flagler County, and failed to yield to a motorcycle.

The motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson driven by Christopher Marlin, 40, of Jacksonville, with his wife, Siglinda Marlin, 45, as a passenger, was traveling southbound on A1A and had the right of way, according to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Both Marlin and his wife were thrown from the motorcycle and onto the roadway after striking the passenger side of Meyer’s BMW.

Christopher Marlin sustained serious injuries and was transported to Halifax Hospital. Siglinda Marlin sustained minor injuries. Both were wearing helmets.

+ Two bikers critically injured in separate Flagler crashes
Two bikers were critically injured March 15 and March 16 in two motorcycle crashes in Flagler County.

Ronnie Reynolds, 54, of Virginia, was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 around 6:40 p.m. March 15. Other riders stated Reynolds was having problems earlier with his 2008 Harley-Ultra motorcycle.

Reynolds then veered toward the west emergency shoulder when he lost control and began to rotate clockwise and overturned in the grass several times, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident took place about 2.5 miles north of State Road 100. Reynolds was not wearing a helmet, the report states.

In another incident, Fernando Chavez, 29, of Virginia, was traveling southbound on A1A around 12:48 p.m. March 16, at a high rate of speed on his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by Diane Toth, of Palm Coast, was properly parked on the east shoulder of the northbound lane on A1A.

Toth began to make a U-turn to travel southbound on A1A when Chavez approached at a high rate of speed. Because of his speed, Chavez was unable to take evasive action to avoid the collision, the report states.

Chavez hit the right front side of Toth’s car and was ejected onto the west unpaved shoulder. He was airlifted from the scene by FireFlight and taken to Halifax Hospital with critical injuries. Chavez wasn’t wearing a helmet. Toth didn’t suffer any injuries. The crash is under further investigation and charges are pending.
