The Federal Aviation Administration’s training center will remain in Palm Coast, officials announced Friday.
“The FAA’s training facility will remain in Palm Coast for the foreseeable future, and due to language included in new FAA law I introduced in the House, Palm Coast will always have a fair shot at future contracts,” U.S. Rep. John Mica said Friday in a statement.
The Center for Management and Executive Leadership currently employs about 115 people.
“These days, any news about keeping jobs is welcome news,” said Sen. Bill Nelson. “Hopefully, the facility will stay in Palm Coast.”
The FAA was considering moving the facility without offering Palm Coast the opportunity to compete to retain the training contract.
Originally, the FAA wanted the center to be within 25 miles of a major international airport. Kansas City was viewed as Palm Coast's biggest competition.
Added Mica: “Given the ideal location of the facility and professionalism of the employees at Palm Coast, I am confident Palm Coast will have the edge in any future bids.”
