Golf cart confrontation ends with pepper spray

Around 11:30 a.m. — North Ocean Shore Boulevard, Palm Coast

Felony battery. A 74-year-old Palm Coast man was arrested after deputies said he pepper-sprayed another man during a confrontation stemming from an accusation of theft.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the victim said he had previously stayed with the man for one night. Afterward, the 74-year-old accused him of stealing and allegedly threatened to “bash” his skull.

Deputies said the two encountered each other on North Ocean Shore Boulevard, with the victim walking on the sidewalk and the other man riding a golf cart. The 74-year-old allegedly began yelling about the theft, circled the victim with his golf cart and sprayed him with pepper spray about five times.

A deputy reported seeing an orange substance on the victim’s left arm and redness on his arm and neck. The victim declined medical treatment. Deputies initially searched the area but were unable to locate the 74-year-old man.

The man was charged with felony battery based on a prior battery conviction.

Courthouse disturbance ends in arrest

Around 9:50 a.m. — Kim C. Hammond Justice Center, Bunnell

Breach of peace, battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence. A 39-year-old woman was arrested after deputies said she caused a disturbance inside the Flagler County courthouse and resisted deputies attempting to remove her.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the woman became involved in a verbal altercation at the security screening area after she was told to lower her dress after allegedly lifting it and exposing herself.

The woman then went to the Clerk of Courts office, where deputies said she became upset with the assistance she received and began screaming, yelling and banging her hands on the counter. Deputies told her to leave, but she allegedly refused and continued yelling and slamming her hands on the counter.

As deputies attempted to arrest her, she allegedly grabbed a sergeant's uniform shirt and refused repeated commands to let go. After she was handcuffed, deputies said the woman stood with one foot on each of two officers' feet and urinated on the floor in front of the second-floor elevators.

The woman was arrested on charges of breach of peace, battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence and was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility.
