Two scooters and nowhere to go

2:19 p.m. — State Road 100, Palm Coast

Grand theft. A 42-year-old Palm Coast woman and a 45-year-old man were arrested after deputies said they stole two electric scooters from a local retailer and were later spotted near Palm Coast City Hall with the scooters.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the scooters were stolen in separate incidents on Sept. 18. During one of the thefts, the suspects allegedly removed packaging and merchandise protection from a scooter, placed it in a shopping cart and walked past all points of sale without paying.

Later that day, a deputy driving past Palm Coast City Hall spotted two people who matched the descriptions of the suspects. The pair were sitting near two electric scooters and a bicycle, with scooter boxes in nearby bushes. The man was also reading a user manual for one of the scooters, deputies said.

The two denied being at the store and told deputies they had purchased a scooter from a man for about $75 but couldn't figure out how to make it work.

Deputies said the two scooters were valued at a combined $759. Both suspects were arrested on grand theft charges, taken to the Flagler County Inmate Facility and issued trespass warnings from the store.

‘I got away with it once before and got greedy’

8:29 p.m. — State Road 100, Palm Coast

Petit theft. A 32-year-old man was arrested after deputies said he stole trading cards from a Palm Coast retailer — months after allegedly stealing trading cards from the same store.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, a loss prevention officer recognized the man as a repeat suspect and watched him select four packs of Pokémon trading cards. He allegedly grabbed an empty store bag, concealed the cards and walked out without paying. The cards were worth a combined $79.14 and were recovered.

The loss prevention officer told deputies the same man had allegedly stolen $84.97 worth of NBA and UFC trading cards from the store on June 23.

When a deputy asked the man why he stole from the store, he reportedly had a simple explanation: he “got away with it once before and got greedy.”

The man was arrested on two petit theft charges and taken to the Flagler County Inmate Facility.
