REvive Fitness in Ormond Beach raised $4,600 for the Tunnels to Towers Foundation during a recent flash class in honor of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The class, held on Saturday, Sept. 12, consisted of 343 repetitions through several fitness movements aimed at honoring the 343 firefighters who died in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. A total of 42 REvive Fitness members, friends and family took part in the class.
"This wasn’t just another workout," REvive Fitness owner Arnold Kolozsvari said in an email. "Every single repetition, every movement, and every step had a purpose and a meaning behind it."
The class participants continued exercising until they collectively reached 2,997 movements, representing every life lost during 9/11.
"Then everything stopped," Kolozsvari said. "For one minute, all 42 of us stood together in silence and paid our REspect. And then came the part I will never forget."
They took 110 steps together.
"As I was creating this workout, I already had chills thinking about what these numbers represented," Kolozsvari said. "But actually standing there Saturday morning, hearing 42 people counting together, watching everyone push through the workout together, and then seeing the entire group complete those final steps as one... It was breathtaking. It created a feeling of unity that is difficult to put into words."
Tunnels to Towers is a nonprofit founded in the memory of Stephen Siller, one of the New York city firefighters who died during 9/11. Visit t2t.org.
