Almost two dozen people gathered on Constitution Day, Thursday, Sept. 17, to mark the 239th anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution. They read aloud the entire Constitution at Heroes Memorial Park in Palm Coast with the goal of forming "a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity!"
The event was orchestrated by a loose-knit group who gather each Wednesday under the banner “Conversations in American Democracy” to respond to affronts to the rule of law locally, state-wide and nationally.
Disturbed by the tendency to divide the local community into two camps, a progressive/liberal camp and a patriot group, regulars at Conversations in America Democracy seek to point out that progressive/liberals are as patriotic as anyone.
As are most of the weekly sessions of Conversations in American Democracy. This celebration of the signing of the US Constitution is available on YouTube thanks to the efforts of Suncoast Media Services LLC and Al and Kathy Ritondo.
