My View: Community Cats of Palm Coast needs your help

'The demand for our help is at an all-time high, but the financial support required to fuel that help has dried up. We cannot rescue cats with passion alone!'

I am writing this today because we have reached a breaking point, and transparency is the only option left.

Over the last few months, we have posted urgent updates, subtle warnings and direct appeals for financial support. To be candid, those messages were not taken seriously enough.

Today, there is no room for polite subtext: If our financial situation does not change immediately, this rescue will cease to exist.

Every single day, our inbox is flooded with dozens of requests: "Can you take in this litter of kittens?" "Someone left a cat behind, can you help?" "I always recommend your rescue to everyone in town!"

While we are deeply grateful that the community trusts us, good intentions and word-of-mouth recommendations do not pay the bills.

THE HARD NUMBERS

To understand how dire this is, look at the math: Palm Coast has 109,886 residents. Out of nearly 110,000 people, only 32 people donate on a regular basis. That gives us just $1,453.84 a month in dependable income.

In addition to those 32 regular donors, an average of only 10 to 15 people donate to us sporadically each month. There are 4,160 businesses operating in Palm Coast. Of those thousands of businesses, exactly one business donates to us each year.

Read those numbers again. A community of over 100,000 people and 4,000 businesses is relying on the financial sacrifice of fewer than 50 individuals to handle the entire cat welfare crisis in this city. That model is completely unsustainable.

There is a widespread misconception that non-profit status comes with magical safety nets or free passes. It does not! The electric company does not reduce our rate because we save lives.

The landlord does not waive rent when our bank account is low. The phone, internet, veterinary clinics, and supply vendors do not give us things for free or offer special non-profit discounts out of the goodness of their hearts.

We pay full price to keep the lights on, keep the facilities clean, keep the AC running, and provide life-saving medical care to every single cat that walks through our doors.

Right now, the balance is completely broken. The demand for our help is at an all-time high, but the financial support required to fuel that help has dried up. We cannot rescue cats with passion alone!

If you value having this rescue in Palm Coast — if you have ever

relied on us, recommended us, or cheered us on — we need your help right now. Not tomorrow, not next month. Today.

HOW YOU CAN SAVE US TODAY

Donate directly. Even $5 or $10 keeps the lights on and the food bowls full. Every single dollar counts. Become a Monthly Supporter: Join the 32 dedicated people keeping our doors open. Recurring gifts give us a predictable floor to pay our core bills.

Local Businesses: Partner with us. Show your commitment to the community for a service we are already providing by keeping commercial areas free of stray cats and kittens.

We are the only cat rescue that actually serves Palm Coast. We don't want to close our doors. We don't want to turn our backs on the cats who have nowhere else to go. But without immediate financial intervention from the community we serve that decision will be made for us

Thank you to the 32 core donors and the handful of individuals who have carried us this far. To everyone else: please help us stay alive so we can keep saving lives, one feline at a time.
