I spy burger socks, burger headbands, burger hats, burger earrings, burger purses, burger costumes, burger everything. It must be Burger Week in Ormond Beach!
During Ormond Beach Burger Week, 20 restaurants with 20 unique specialty burgers vye for the coveted Burger Week trophy. Rachel and I decided to catch up with the Burger Week Committee, who has been stopping at two of the participating restaurants per day to try each burger featured in the competition, which started on Friday, Sept. 11 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 20.
We found the Burger Week Committee at the Piraña Grille at 241 U.S. 1. They said that, so far, the Burger Week response has been beyond what they had imagined.
“It’s all about the local businesses,” Burger Week Co-founder Carly Krajewski said. “We love to support local businesses.”
The committee reported that last year's winner, Ormond Brewing Company, sold out of their Burger Week special after selling 450 of their Brisket Burger in less than two days. After stocking up on ingredients, the brewery is now ready for more Burger Week customers.
The committee also reported that new restaurants and participants like Flips, Cue Note Billiards, Tango’s Ormond Beach, and others have received visits from new customers that came in just to try their burger week offerings.
“I started Burger Week because my hometown had burger week [in Georgia],” Krajewski said. “My sister would blog about it every Burger Week and I wanted to do it. And she said for years, ‘why don't you do it in Ormond? Ormond's the coolest place to have a burger week.’ So, I did.”
The first Burger Week was held in 2023, and is organized by members of Realty Pros Assured and Realty Pro Title. Krajewski is with Realty Pros. If you spot the committee, you may walk away with some swag.
"We typically give [hats] away at participating restaurants, and it's a surprise to any of the people who are eating a burger,” Burger Week co-founder Billie Jo Kaler said.
Many at Piraña Grille ordered the Burger Week special, “The Kamehamcha.” In my opinion, it was unique and did not disappoint. It’s a half-pound grass-fed burger topped with a grilled pineapple and a special sweet and spicy wing sauce with red onion and Sriracha Aioli.
We also saw other people who were there just for Burger Week — like Bill and Chris Finnie, of Daytona Beach. Bill has created a calendar/schedule so they can try every burger over the 10-day period of Burger Week.
“This year, his mission is to do all of them,” Chris said.
Her husband Bill also included space in his printed schedule for them to write comments on their experience at each of the restaurants.
“Oh, you don't put pineapple on burgers or pizza,” Chris Finnie said, alluding to the alleged culinary faux pas. After trying Piraña Grille's burger, she said, "Oh no, you do. It's just delicious.”
It looks like I will be creating my own spreadsheet/calendar next year.
Want to participate? It's not too late. Pick up an official 2026 Burger Week Passport at one of the participating restaurants. You must try at least five burgers to vote. Each burger costs $12 a la carte with $1 of each purchase going to Provision Packs, a nonprofit focused on supplementing meals for children and families in need in Volusia and Flagler County. Your passport also serves as your Burger Bingo card — form a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row with your stamps and you'll be entered to win a $25 gift card from one of the participating Burger Week restaurants. If you try them all, you'll automatically win a gift card.
