A 33-year-old Bunnell man was killed early Tuesday morning after he was struck by two vehicles while attempting to cross U.S. 1 on a bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 6:22 a.m. Sept. 15 on U.S. 1 south of Otis Stone Hunter Road in Flagler County.

FHP said two bicyclists were attempting to cross U.S. 1 from the east grass shoulder on their way to work when they crossed directly in front of a northbound pickup truck.

The 70-year-old Palm Coast man driving the pickup was unable to slow down and struck one of the bicyclists. The impact sent the bicyclist into the roadway, where a sedan driven by a 24-year-old St. Augustine man was unable to avoid him and struck him again, dragging him farther north on U.S. 1.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead. His next of kin has been notified. Neither the pickup driver nor the sedan driver was injured.

A third vehicle, an SUV driven by a 48-year-old Bunnell woman, traveled through the debris field and stopped north of the crash, according to FHP.
