Sept. 7

Postmarked discontent

12:25 p.m. — First block of Hunt Master Court, Ormond Beach

Vandalism. An Ormond Beach resident contacted police after his mailbox was flipped 45 degrees to the right. His suspected culprit? His 80-year-old neighbor.

According to a police report, the resident believed his neighbor had turned his mailbox because of a prior incident. In early May, the neighbor had simulated a sex act with the resident's mailbox. Then the following day, the neighbor told him he would kill his acts and voiced rude sentiments concerning the appearance of the resident and his wife.

The Wednesday before the mailbox turning incident, the resident said he spotted his neighbor walking his dog by his house in the morning. A bag of dog feces was left next to his mailbox, which someone later ran over, spraying it all over his mailbox and front yard. The resident had to clean it up, the report states.

As for this incident, the resident was able to turn the mailbox around and tighten its screws.

Sept. 13

Battery charge

2:17 p.m. — 1000 block of Arroyo Parkway, Ormond Beach

Suspicious person. A 57-year-old Daytona Beach man found at a vacant residence told police he was simply charging his phone — and had permission to do so.

Police responded to a call about a suspicious person after a witness spotted the man entering the home with a bicycle. The witness saw the man leave his bike on the back steps and climb in through a broken window, according to a police report.

When police arrived, the man was sitting between the home and the steps using his bike and backpack to block him from view. He claimed he hadn't entered the home and was charging his phone through an outdoor power outlet, which police observed. The man said the neighbor had given him permission.

Though the home is vacant, police report it has been recently remodeled and managed by a property management company, who declined to pursue charges. The man was asked not to return to the residence.
